Life Drawing 05/03/10

Lady life model today! Today's life drawing was on lights, tones and shadows and such stuff. The first three sketches were 5 minute warm ups so I didn't have time, unfortunately, to do any tonal work (you can't tell but the lady is posing next to a light frame in these three sketches).

The fourth drawing was half an hour long and, as you can see, I'm not the strongest when it comes to shading. Reinhard was saying too that I should try and hold back from drawing such dark, heavy lines as it means my shadows will have to be dark and heavy too to match. It was difficult 'cause I'm used to drawing that way, but I tried softening them up for the last sketch and it did turn out a lot better. It's definitely something I need to practice on though.

The last drawing was also 30 minutes long and I think it's my favourite out of the lot. The inorganic straight line at the bottom of the sketch is where she's hidden behind the light frame which she was lying in, in case you were wondering.

All pictures done using willow charcoal.
